About the Department

 Language is the root of communication. In India  there exist several languages. Infact, India is a country of diverse languages and literatures. Among them Bengali is one of the major languages of India, which has a strong impact around the world as far the literature is concerned. Bengali, considered as the sweetest language of the world, has produced literature bringing out the inner feelings of life at its best.

The Bengali department of Rani Dhanya  Kumari college has a colourful history since it's initiation in the college. In 1962,  the teaching started in the intermediate level and it was affiliated to Calcutta University. In 1995 the department started it's teaching in the undergraduate level only in the pass course and the honours classes have begun  in 2003 under Kalyani University. From the academic session 2018-19, CBCS has been introduced as prescribed by the UGC and affiliating University for both Honours and Programme courses.In the next phase, undergraduate studies have started from 2023 as per NEP- 2020.

Infrastructure

The Intake capacity of the Bengali department of this college in Major Course is 610.

The department has two sanctioned full time teaching personalities. One Invited lecturer is also shouldering the teaching personality. The curriculum laid down by the University of Kalyani is properly delineated, being properly divided in module and with respect available working days.

Teachers conduct classes in spacious, airy classrooms for students of the department. The ICT based teaching facility is present in department that can help the students to better understand the topics.

The college library has about 4000 text books, relevant reference books, additional knowledge-building books, various magazines and news papers.There is an air-conditioned reading room where students can read during their free time. They can also borrow books and take them home to read using a lending card. Library books can be searched through online catalogue system, opec-softlib. Students can access e-books through Inflibnet.

The department places great  emphasis on regular assessment of students' progress. With that objective class-tests are frequently conducted.

The teachers are generally quite intimate with the students. As a result, the students often seek guidance from the teachers, not only in academic matters but also when they face any personal or career related problems.
