About the Department
The Department of Geography, Rani Dhanya Kumari College, Jiaganj was established in 2008. The department is located in front of Library Block (Extended) with a separate building including 2 classrooms and an air-conditioned laboratory room. It is one of the leading and elite departments in the college. From the beginning, the department offered 3 years Honours and 3 years General course under the University of Kalyani. The faculty strength of the Department consists of one sanctioned teaching post and two SACTs. All the teachers in the department are very dedicated to yielding the best of their teaching to the students and putting in their hard-hearted effort to bring out the best in the students. Moreover, the department is regularly engaged in serious academic exercises like invited lectures, seminars by eminent Geographers & Academicians, Social Awareness Programme and Educational tours, parent teacher meeting etc. A good number of books and journals relating to Geography are available for the students in our Central Library and the Departmental Library.
Infrastructure
From the beginning, the department had not any separate building and laboratory but presently, the department has separate building with 2 classrooms and a well-furnished laboratory room. The laboratory has 7 computers, a wardrobe, two almirah and three wall showcase, a store room etc. The laboratory has air-conditioned atmosphere with GIS software and free Wi-Fi facilities. The department has instruments set of Prismatic Compass, Transit Theodolite, Dumpy Level, Rock and Minerals set, three light tracing table etc. Presently, the department has a Full time faculty and two SACT-I teachers who taught their students with projectors, study material with care.
